"Budapest Through My Lens, A Solitary Perspective"

Photography and text by Stephen Spinder

The fifth edition of his internationally acclaimed photography highlights Spinder's unique elegant views, night-time compositions, and the multitude of Budapest’s architectural styles, from Neo-Classic facades and Gothic spires, to turrets and towers of medieval castles. This exquiste collection of over 130 black & white photographs captures the grace and beauty of this ancient city - reproduced in classic sepia duo-tone, which renders a turn-of-the-century feeling of the city's 'Golden Age'. Includes 14 exquisite images captured in iridescent evening color. The artist’s personal stories render and highlight aspects of Budapest/Hungarian history. It has an informative introduction by Péter Fáth, CEO; American Chamber of Commerce.

Spinder's major retrospective album - images since the fall of Communism –  is a visual ‘document’ of Budapest's 17-year return to its former glory on the world stage - city and culture that has once again regained its pre-eminence on the world stage. His photographs have been commissioned by the Hungarian Foreign and Cultural Ministry, US Embassy and Budapest Office of Tourism. His book has been presented to  Hardcover, black/white, Trim size A4(9" X 12.5"), 160 pp., 170gsm, rice paper overlays. ISBN  # 9632048601

A well traveled photographer originally from New York, Stephen Spinder has photographed the Gothic spires and Neo-Classic facades of Budapest since 1991. His collections are well received in the Budapest international business/diplomatic community. These limited edition prints and his books are also well received in the United States - recognition in Washington DC. by Andras Simonyi, Hungarian Ambassador to US. Also, three were presented to George H. Bush, George W. Bush and Colin Powell.

"He captures unforgettable views of the cityscape, the architecture and its inhabitants. I have been photographing this city for decades and I have never thought of
some of the views Stephen was able to capture."
-Péter Fáth; CEO, American Chamber of Commerce

"I was born in Budapest, and until now I was quite sure that I know too well each brick, each segment of this city. Looking at these photos I have to admit that a personal involvement means nothing. You have to be an artist to see these urban details with a different eye. And if you are an excellent artist such as Stephen, you will catch site of these parts with defined artistic quality."
- Lilla, US Embassy, Budapest

Author comments :
Inspiration for this book project came when I first travelled to Eastern Europe to chase Hungarian folk dancing. I had always wanted to publish a book of my work. It never became more of a reality than when I arrived in the city and began to develop a network of friends, colleagues and professionals who have supported me from the beginning. I would like to thank so many people, who have, either directly or indirectly, been the true architects of this long-incubating publication: without their unselfish giving, relentless energy, and eternal patience in dealing with me, the artist, it could never have happened. To them I am greatly indebted.
